Ethan Was Accused of Taking Clothes Without Permission — Then the Garage Camera Showed Who Had Put Them There Before He Ever Touched the Box

Chapter 12 — The Missing Drill

Daniel stood in front of the empty shelf.

“Where’s my drill?”

Claire looked from the kitchen doorway.

“No idea.”

Ethan was tying a donation box shut nearby.

Daniel looked toward him.

The thought came automatically.

Ethan was here.

The drill is gone.

But Daniel remembered the clothing box.

He took a breath.

“Ethan, did you see my drill?”

Ethan looked up.

“Yeah.”

Daniel waited.

“Uncle Jason borrowed it yesterday.”

Daniel blinked.

“Jason?”

“He said he texted you.”

Daniel checked his phone.

There it was.

A message buried beneath work notifications.

Borrowing your drill for my shelf. Will bring it back Friday.

Daniel laughed.

“Apparently my biggest enemy is checking my own messages.”

Ethan smiled.

Claire looked toward Daniel.

“What would you have said a month ago?”

Daniel thought.

“Probably, ‘Ethan, where did you put my drill?’”

Ethan nodded.

“Definitely.”

Daniel looked toward him.

“Better?”

“Much.”

The missing drill became nothing more than a two-minute misunderstanding.

No damaged trust.

No argument.

No recording needed.

Daniel understood something then.

Asking first was not about assuming Ethan was always innocent.

Ethan would make mistakes.

He would borrow things sometimes.

He would forget.

He would be wrong.

But the facts should determine the response.

Not Daniel’s first suspicion.

Then Claire reminded both of them that the community center’s final collection day was Saturday.

Ethan had been invited to help deliver the boxes.

Daniel offered to drive.

Ethan looked surprised.

Then said:

“Actually, yeah.”

And the trip would finally show Daniel what Ethan had been trying to accomplish in the garage from the beginning.
