Ethan Was Accused of Taking Clothes Without Permission — Then the Garage Camera Showed Who Had Put Them There Before He Ever Touched the Box

Chapter 11 — The Envelope in the Donated Coat

Daniel looked at the envelope.

MARIA

It was sealed.

“Probably somebody forgot this in a pocket,” he said.

Ethan nodded.

“We should find out whose coat it was.”

Daniel looked through the office donation list.

The coat came from one of his coworkers, Luis.

Daniel called him.

“Hey, we found an envelope in the coat you donated.”

Luis became quiet.

“Does it say Maria?”

“Yes.”

“Don’t open it.”

Daniel looked toward Ethan.

“We won’t.”

Luis explained that it was an old birthday letter from his daughter.

He had forgotten it was inside the inner pocket.

He wanted it back.

Daniel returned the envelope the next morning.

That evening he told Ethan:

“Good catch.”

Ethan shrugged.

“That’s why we’re supposed to check pockets.”

Daniel smiled.

“I meant stopping me before I opened it.”

Ethan looked toward him.

“It had someone else’s name on it.”

Daniel nodded.

Simple.

Permission mattered even when the object had already been placed in a donation box.

They finished sorting.

Then Daniel noticed the old garage camera above them.

“Funny.”

Ethan followed his gaze.

“What?”

“That camera saved me from being very confidently wrong.”

Ethan smiled.

“You were pretty confident.”

“Painfully confident.”

Daniel looked toward his son.

“I don’t want that to become the reason you think I believe you.”

Ethan’s smile faded slightly.

Daniel continued.

“Next time you tell me something, I want to start from listening.”

“Not from whether there’s footage.”

Ethan nodded.

“Okay.”

A few days later, another problem happened in the garage.

Daniel’s power drill disappeared from its shelf.

Ethan had been the last person working nearby.

And this time, there was no useful camera angle.
