Brenda stood right beside her, watching the cart with a tense, darting gaze.
“You could leave after finishing the first cart,” Brenda said, her voice tight and hurried.
Lily looked up, shaking her head.
“I don’t mind helping out,” Lily replied.
Footsteps echoed sharply against the grey hotel carpeting.
Mr. Harrison strode down the corridor, his tailored suit jacket swaying slightly as he approached them.
He stopped directly beside the housekeeping cart and frowned.
“Why is she doing staff work?” Mr. Harrison asked, looking straight at Brenda.
Brenda shifted her weight and forced a thin smile.
“She insisted on helping,” Brenda replied nervously.
Lily paused, holding a folded hand towel in her hands.
“She told me the camera doesn’t work anyway,” Lily added, pointing straight up at the black dome on the ceiling.
Mr. Harrison’s expression instantly hardened.
He looked up at the ceiling and then back down at the head housekeeper.
“That camera was upgraded yesterday,” Mr. Harrison said.
Brenda’s face drained of color.
She stammered, gripping the edge of the housekeeping cart.
“I didn’t know that,” Brenda whispered.
Lily didn’t waste another second.
She reached into her canvas bag and pulled out a sleek digital tablet.
Her fingers tapped quickly across the screen, connecting directly to the building’s digital surveillance network.
“Check the part where she took my room key,” Lily said firmly.
Brenda snapped, losing all composure as the live feeds loaded on the glass screen.
“There’s a reason for that!” Brenda shouted, lunging forward toward the tablet.
Lily pulled the screen back just out of reach while the tablet’s local storage directory populated with yesterday’s cloud-synced movement logs.
