Sophie Found an Old Photograph and a Note That Said “Tomorrow” — Then Daniel Asked Vanessa Who the Man Was
Chapter 1 — The Photograph in the Drawer
Sophie sat at the kitchen counter with tears streaming down her face.
Vanessa stood beside her.
“Stop making things up.”
Sophie shook her head.
“I’m not.”
“Enough.”
That was when Daniel walked into the kitchen.
The moment Sophie saw him, she reached both arms toward him.
“Daddy.”
Daniel immediately crossed the room.
“Hey. What’s wrong?”
Sophie buried her face against him.
Daniel looked at Vanessa.
“What happened?”
Vanessa folded her arms.
“She’s been telling some ridiculous story about a man coming tomorrow.”
Sophie lifted her head.
“It’s true.”
Vanessa sighed.
“See?”
Daniel crouched beside his daughter.
“What man?”
Sophie didn’t answer.
Instead, she pointed toward a narrow drawer beneath the kitchen counter.
Vanessa’s expression changed.
Daniel noticed.
He opened the drawer.
Inside were old takeout menus, batteries, and loose pens.
Then he saw the photograph.
Black and white.
Worn around the edges.
It showed a young man standing beside an old railway platform.
Daniel had never seen him before.
Underneath the photograph was a folded piece of paper.
One word had been written across the top.
TOMORROW.
Daniel unfolded it.
The rest of the message read:
9:30 AM. East Station. Bring the photograph. Come alone. If Daniel knows before then, I walk away.
Daniel slowly looked up.
“Vanessa… who is this man?”
Vanessa froze.
Sophie kept pointing toward the photograph.
Then whispered:
“Mommy said you could never see it.”
The kitchen went completely silent.
