Daniel Found a Working Two-Way Radio Hidden Inside His Son’s Bedroom Wall — Then a Voice on the Other End Revealed Who Had Been Contacting Noah in Secret

Chapter 4 — Henry Knew Daniel Had Found It

Daniel stared at the radio.

Rachel’s expression changed from fear to anger.

Daniel pressed the button.

“Dad.”

Silence.

Then:

“Daniel.”

There was no longer any mystery about the voice.

Henry Reynolds was on the other end.

Daniel stood.

“You put a radio inside my son’s bedroom?”

Henry did not answer immediately.

“Daniel, don’t make this worse than it is.”

Rachel looked at the radio in disbelief.

Daniel’s voice hardened.

“You secretly put a communication device in a child’s bedroom.”

“Tell me exactly what I am exaggerating.”

Henry sighed through the speaker.

“It wasn’t for listening.”

Daniel froze.

“What?”

“It’s a two-way radio.”

“Noah has to press the button to talk.”

Daniel looked at the device.

That mattered.

If true, Henry had not been able to silently listen to the room whenever he wanted.

But it did not erase the rest.

Rachel took the radio.

“Did you tell Noah to hide this from us?”

Henry went silent.

Rachel repeated:

“Did you?”

Finally:

“I told him you probably wouldn’t understand.”

Daniel laughed once.

There was no humor in it.

“That’s a yes.”

Henry’s voice sharpened.

“You stopped letting me talk to my grandson.”

“No,” Daniel said.

“I told you to stop using him to go around us.”

“You responded by literally building a secret way around us.”

Noah started crying again.

Rachel immediately ended the conversation.

“We’re done for tonight.”

She switched off the radio.

Daniel looked toward his son.

Noah appeared terrified that he had caused the argument.

Rachel noticed too.

“Noah, this is not your job to fix.”

He whispered:

“Grandpa said Dad wouldn’t let me talk to him anymore if you found it.”

Daniel went completely still.

Because Henry had apparently told Noah far more about the adults’ conflict than either parent realized.
