Megan Was Told Her Son Spilled the Drink — Then She Noticed One Detail in the Diner Camera Footage
Chapter 3 — The Man at the Counter
Megan replayed the moment.
There was no question.
Brandon looked toward the counter.
The stranger nodded once.
Then Brandon pushed Tyler’s drink over.
Megan felt the situation change completely.
“Who is that man?”
Brandon looked toward the counter.
The stool was empty.
The stranger had already left.
“I don’t know.”
Megan stared at him.
“You looked directly at him.”
“People look around restaurants.”
“He nodded at you.”
Brandon said nothing.
Tyler leaned toward Megan.
“Can we go?”
She heard the fear in his voice.
Megan immediately picked up her purse.
Then she noticed something.
The zipper was open.
She always kept it closed.
Always.
Megan reached inside.
Wallet.
Phone.
Keys.
Everything seemed there.
Then she checked the small inner pocket.
Empty.
Her stomach dropped.
“No.”
Tyler looked at her.
“What?”
Megan searched again.
The envelope was gone.
A plain white envelope containing documents she had planned to take to an attorney immediately after lunch.
Tyler watched her expression.
“Mom?”
Megan turned toward Brandon.
“Where is it?”
Brandon looked genuinely confused.
“Where is what?”
“The envelope from my purse.”
His face changed.
That was enough.
Megan stepped closer.
“You know exactly what I’m talking about.”
Brandon whispered, “I never touched your purse.”
“Then who did?”
He looked toward the front door.
The man in the baseball cap was gone.
