Waiter Jason Blamed Lucas for the Spilled Soda — Then the Restaurant Camera Showed Rachel What Really Happened
Chapter 1 — The Spilled Drink
Rachel Morgan had promised her son one thing after his dental appointment.
Lunch anywhere he wanted.
Lucas chose Bellamy’s Diner.
It wasn’t expensive.
It wasn’t fancy.
But Lucas loved the red booths, the old jukebox near the counter, and the enormous chocolate milkshakes.
They had been sitting in Booth 14 for less than twenty minutes when everything changed.
A large glass of soda lay on its side across the table.
Dark liquid ran over the menus.
Ice cubes scattered against Rachel’s purse.
Lucas’s shirt was soaked.
Waiter Jason Cole stood beside the booth holding an empty tray.
“I’m sorry,” he said quickly. “He reached for it when I was setting it down.”
Rachel looked at Lucas.
“Did you?”
Lucas shook his head immediately.
“No.”
Jason grabbed several napkins.
“It happened fast.”
Lucas stared at him.
“I didn’t touch it.”
Jason smiled awkwardly.
“Buddy, it’s okay. Accidents happen.”
Lucas’s face turned red.
“But I didn’t do it.”
Rachel knew her son.
Lucas was nine.
He could be impatient.
He could be messy.
He had definitely knocked over plenty of drinks before.
But something about his expression made her hesitate.
He wasn’t embarrassed.
He looked angry.
Jason continued wiping the table.
“I’ll bring another soda.”
Lucas suddenly raised one finger.
He pointed toward the ceiling.
“The camera saw it.”
Jason stopped moving.
Rachel followed her son’s finger.
A black security camera was mounted directly above the aisle.
Its lens pointed toward their booth.
Rachel looked back at Jason.
“Can we see the recording?”
Jason’s expression changed.
Only for a moment.
But Rachel noticed.
“I don’t think customers can access that.”
“Then ask your manager.”
Jason glanced toward the kitchen.
“It’s just a spilled drink.”
Lucas folded his arms.
Rachel looked at Jason.
“Then showing me the video shouldn’t be a problem.”
Five minutes later, the restaurant manager returned carrying a tablet.
Jason stood beside him.
The footage began.
Rachel watched the screen carefully.
And within twenty seconds, she realized Jason had not told her the truth.
