Megan Was Told Her Son Spilled the Drink — Then She Noticed One Detail in the Diner Camera Footage

Chapter 6 — Victor Hale

Victor’s official title was Corporate Security Director.

Most employees barely noticed him.

He handled building access.

Internal investigations.

Security systems.

And, occasionally, employee misconduct cases.

Megan had spoken to him only twice.

But she remembered the scar beside his eyebrow.

Officer Ruiz immediately requested a clearer image from the restaurant cameras.

Evelyn pulled up another angle.

Victor entered the diner at 12:17 PM.

Megan and Tyler arrived at 12:26.

Victor was already waiting.

He watched Megan enter.

He watched where she placed her purse.

Then he called Brandon over.

The camera had no audio.

But Victor clearly handed him cash.

Minutes later, Brandon approached the booth.

Drink spilled.

Megan and Tyler both looked down.

Victor moved instantly.

He passed behind Megan.

His hand disappeared inside her purse for less than three seconds.

Then he walked away.

Officer Ruiz froze the image.

Victor was holding the white envelope.

“That’s enough for me,” he said.

Megan’s phone rang.

She looked at the screen.

GREG LAWSON.

Her supervisor.

Officer Ruiz held up one finger.

“Answer it.”

Megan did.

“Hello?”

Greg sounded unusually friendly.

“Megan, just checking in. Did you make it to your attorney meeting?”

Megan looked at the officer.

She had never told Greg she was meeting an attorney.
