Waiter Jason Blamed Lucas for the Spilled Soda — Then the Restaurant Camera Showed Rachel What Really Happened
Chapter 9 — Rachel Returns
Two weeks later, Rachel and Lucas returned to Bellamy’s.
Lucas had asked to go.
Rachel was surprised.
“After everything that happened?”
Lucas shrugged.
“The burgers are still good.”
Jason was working.
When he saw them, he stopped.
“Please tell me you’re not ordering soda.”
Lucas smiled.
“Extra large.”
Jason laughed.
“Cruel.”
They sat in Booth 14 again.
Jason carefully placed Lucas’s drink in the center of the table.
Then moved it another six inches farther from the edge.
Lucas looked up.
“You can stop now.”
“I’m not taking chances.”
Rachel smiled.
Then she noticed something pinned near the employee area.
A handwritten note from Mark.
IF SOMETHING GOES WRONG, TELL THE TRUTH FIRST.
Rachel pointed toward it.
“New policy?”
Jason nodded.
“Inspired by me.”
“You must be proud.”
“Deeply.”
His smile faded slightly.
“I really am sorry about Lucas.”
Rachel nodded.
“I know.”
“I keep thinking about it.”
“Why?”
Jason looked toward Lucas.
“Because I was furious when I found out Denise had been blaming me for things I didn’t do.”
He paused.
“Then I realized I’d done exactly the same thing to him.”
Rachel looked at her son.
Lucas was drawing on a paper menu.
“At least you admitted it.”
Jason nodded.
“Eventually.”
