Waiter Jason Blamed Lucas for the Spilled Soda — Then the Restaurant Camera Showed Rachel What Really Happened
Chapter 2 — What the Camera Saw
The video showed Rachel and Lucas sitting normally at the booth.
Lucas’s hands were beneath the table.
Jason approached carrying two drinks.
He placed Rachel’s iced tea down first.
Then he set Lucas’s soda near the edge of the table.
Lucas never reached toward it.
Jason turned.
His tray clipped the top of the glass.
The soda tipped instantly.
Jason tried to catch it.
He missed.
The entire drink spilled across the table.
Rachel stopped the video.
She looked at Jason.
“You told me something different.”
Jason froze.
Restaurant manager Mark Ellis looked from the tablet to his employee.
“Jason?”
Jason swallowed.
“I thought Lucas bumped it.”
Lucas spoke quietly.
“No you didn’t.”
Rachel looked at her son.
Lucas pointed toward the tablet.
“He looked at me before he said it.”
Rachel rewound the video.
Lucas was right.
After the soda fell, Jason looked directly at the child.
Then toward Rachel.
Only after that did he begin saying Lucas had reached for the glass.
Mark’s expression hardened.
“Why would you blame a kid for something you did?”
Jason looked around the dining room.
Several customers had noticed the argument.
“Can we talk in the back?” he whispered.
Rachel shook her head.
“No.”
Jason looked at her.
“Please.”
“You accused my son in front of me. You can explain yourself in front of me too.”
Jason lowered his head.
“I panicked.”
“Over a soda?” Rachel asked.
Jason didn’t answer.
Mark stared at him.
“This isn’t about the soda, is it?”
Jason’s silence answered first.
Then he looked toward the register.
“If I get one more complaint, I’m fired.”
Rachel’s anger softened slightly.
But Mark looked confused.
“One more complaint?”
Jason looked at him.
“That’s what Denise told me.”
Mark’s face changed.
“Denise told you that?”
Jason nodded.
Rachel immediately realized the spilled soda was only the beginning.
