Waiter Jason Blamed Lucas for the Spilled Soda — Then the Restaurant Camera Showed Rachel What Really Happened

Chapter 6 — Jason’s Apology

Jason crouched beside Lucas.

“Can I tell you something?”

Lucas looked at his mother.

Rachel nodded.

Jason continued.

“I was scared I was going to lose my job.”

Lucas stayed silent.

“When I knocked over your drink, I knew it was my fault.”

“Then why did you say I did it?”

Jason looked down.

“Because I thought blaming you would be easier than admitting I made another mistake.”

Lucas frowned.

“But it wasn’t another mistake.”

Jason looked at him.

“What?”

“The other ones weren’t you.”

Jason smiled sadly.

“You’re right.”

Lucas folded his arms.

“So you lied for nothing.”

Rachel tried not to smile.

Jason nodded.

“Pretty much.”

Then his expression became serious.

“I’m sorry.”

Lucas studied him for several seconds.

“Okay.”

Jason looked surprised.

“Okay?”

“But next time just say you spilled it.”

“Deal.”

Mark interrupted.

“We have a bigger problem.”

Everyone turned.

He had found another camera angle.

The footage showed Denise entering the office earlier that afternoon.

She opened a locked cabinet.

Removed a small black envelope.

Then handed it to Eric.

Eric slipped it inside his jacket.

Mark stood.

“That cabinet contains weekend cash deposits.”

Jason stared at him.

“How much?”

Mark answered quietly.

“Almost eighteen thousand dollars.”
