Marcus returned to the bell-services office.

He brought back a stack of duplicate luggage tags.

Whenever guests stored bags before check-in or after checkout, bell staff created numbered tags.

Recently, Marcus noticed several duplicates disappearing.

At the time, he assumed employees were throwing them away.

Now he looked again.

Some tag numbers corresponded with guests on the room list.

Grant frowned.

“Why would anyone need luggage tags if they’re entering rooms?”

Marcus had an idea.

They checked baggage-storage footage.

After valuables disappeared from rooms, Eric frequently visited the bell storage area.

He had legitimate reasons to be there.

But on one recording, Eric placed a small gray pouch inside a suitcase.

Then attached a duplicate luggage tag.

Thirty minutes later, a man who was not a hotel guest collected the suitcase using the matching claim ticket.

Emily stared at the screen.

“He wasn’t carrying stolen items out himself.”

Grant nodded.

“He was moving them through luggage storage.”

The scheme suddenly made sense.

Eric selected rooms likely to be empty.

Temporary staff cards provided entry.

Small valuables were taken.

Then hidden inside apparently legitimate stored luggage.

An accomplice collected it later.

Nothing unusual left in Eric’s pockets.

Nothing obvious appeared on cameras.

The hotel’s own luggage system became the exit route.

Police were contacted.

Eric stopped answering questions.

But the hotel’s investigation wasn’t finished.

Marcus looked toward Grant.

“Eric couldn’t issue the cards by himself.”

“Why not?”

“He doesn’t have administrative permissions.”

Someone else had been generating temporary cards using stolen manager credentials.

Eric had an accomplice inside the hotel.
