Rachel Thought the Nanny Had Been Near Her Baby’s Crib — Then the Monitor Recorded Someone Hiding in the Camera’s Blind Spot
Chapter 1 — The Figure in the Doorway
Jasmine quietly pulled the nursery door almost closed behind her.
The baby was asleep.
Blanket safely tucked below his chest.
Night-light glowing softly beside the dresser.
Everything appeared completely normal.
Then Rachel rushed down the hallway.
“What were you doing in there?”
Jasmine stopped.
“What?”
“In the nursery.”
“I was checking on him.”
Rachel pointed toward the monitor mounted above the bookshelf.
“There’s a camera.”
Jasmine looked confused.
“I know.”
Rachel had received a motion alert several minutes earlier.
She had been downstairs.
Jasmine was supposed to be packing her things to leave.
Rachel immediately opened the baby-monitor application.
The recording began.
Jasmine appeared beside the crib.
She checked the baby’s blanket.
Adjusted the night-light.
Then walked out.
Rachel folded her arms.
“Okay.”
“I told you.”
But the recording continued.
For several seconds, the nursery was empty.
Then something moved near the doorway.
A dark figure stepped partially into frame.
Rachel froze.
“Wait.”
She paused the video.
Only part of the person’s body was visible.
Dark jacket.
Black gloves.
One shoulder.
No face.
Jasmine leaned toward the phone.
“Who is that?”
Rachel looked at her.
“You don’t know?”
“No.”
Rachel replayed it.
The person remained exactly along the edge of the monitor’s view.
They moved toward the changing table.
Crouched.
Then disappeared beneath the camera.
Jasmine whispered:
“They know where it can’t see.”
Rachel’s stomach tightened.
Then the figure stood again.
For one second, a hand became visible.
On the wrist was a bright orange service band.
Rachel stared at it.
She had seen that exact band before.
Six months earlier.
On the man who installed the nursery camera.
