Claire Realized Noah Had Taken the Wrong Suitcase — Then Airport Security Asked Who Told Him to Pick It Up
Chapter 4 — What Was Inside Noah’s Bag
Claire immediately stood.
“Why would anyone want Noah’s suitcase?”
Ramirez looked at her.
“What was inside?”
“Clothes.”
“Anything valuable?”
Claire shook her head.
“Not really.”
Noah suddenly looked at her.
“Mom.”
Claire turned.
“What?”
“Grandpa’s box.”
Claire froze.
She had forgotten.
Inside Noah’s suitcase was a small wooden box wrapped in a sweater.
It had belonged to Claire’s father.
Her father, Samuel Reed, had died six months earlier.
Claire and Noah had just returned from cleaning out his old house.
The wooden box contained family photographs.
Letters.
And several old documents Claire had not yet read.
Ramirez noticed her expression.
“What kind of documents?”
“I don’t know.”
“You didn’t look?”
“Not properly.”
Claire remembered one thing.
There had been an envelope marked:
FOR CLAIRE ONLY.
She had placed the whole box inside Noah’s suitcase because her own bag was already full.
Ramirez looked toward another officer.
“Flag the stolen suitcase immediately.”
Then he asked Claire something she didn’t expect.
“Did anyone know you were carrying your father’s belongings today?”
Claire thought.
“Only family.”
“Who?”
“My brother Daniel.”
She paused.
“And my father’s former business partner.”
Ramirez frowned.
“Name?”
“Victor Lang.”
Noah looked toward the security monitor.
Then suddenly pointed.
“Mom.”
Claire followed his finger.
The man in the gray coat had turned enough for the camera to capture his face clearly.
Claire recognized him.
Not as Victor.
As Victor Lang’s driver.
