Daniel Found Vanessa’s Missing Necklace Inside Sophie’s Bunny — Then He Pulled Out a Plane Ticket for the Next Morning

Chapter 1 — The Bunny on the Shelf

Daniel heard Sophie crying before he reached the living room.

He stepped through the doorway and immediately stopped.

His daughter was sitting on the floor.

Tears covered her cheeks.

Vanessa stood above her holding Sophie’s favorite stuffed bunny.

“The bunny stays with me until you tell the truth.”

Sophie reached upward.

“Please.”

Vanessa placed the toy on the highest shelf.

Then she noticed Daniel.

“Good. You’re home.”

Daniel looked from Vanessa to Sophie.

“What’s going on?”

Vanessa folded her arms.

“My necklace disappeared.”

“What necklace?”

“The gold one your mother gave me.”

Daniel frowned.

Vanessa pointed toward Sophie.

“She was in our bedroom this afternoon. Now the necklace is gone, and she refuses to tell me where she put it.”

Sophie jumped to her feet.

She ran directly into Daniel’s arms.

“Daddy…”

He picked her up.

“It’s okay.”

Vanessa sighed.

“Don’t encourage this. She needs to learn that lying has consequences.”

Daniel looked at his daughter.

Sophie wasn’t angry.

She looked terrified.

That bothered him.

Then he looked toward the stuffed bunny.

It had belonged to Sophie since she was three.

She slept with it every night.

“Why did you take Bunny?” Daniel asked.

Vanessa shrugged.

“Because it’s the only thing she cares about enough to make her talk.”

Daniel’s expression changed.

He lowered Sophie to the floor.

Then pulled the bunny from the shelf.

“Daniel, don’t.”

He ignored her.

The toy felt strange.

He squeezed the fabric near its back.

His fingers found a small opening along a seam.

Daniel frowned.

He reached inside.

His fingers closed around something cold.

He pulled out a gold necklace.

Vanessa froze.

Sophie stopped crying.

Daniel stared at the necklace in his hand.

“Why is your necklace inside her bunny?”

Vanessa opened her mouth.

No words came out.

Daniel felt something else inside the toy.

Paper.

He reached deeper.

Then pulled out a folded airline ticket.

Departure:

TOMORROW — 8:15 AM.

Sophie looked at it.

Then whispered:

“She said… tomorrow.”

Daniel slowly turned toward Vanessa.

“Tomorrow?”

He unfolded the ticket completely.

“Going where?”

Vanessa’s face lost its color.

“Give me that.”

Daniel stepped backward.

For the first time, Vanessa was no longer asking Sophie to explain anything.

Now she was the one with everything to explain.
