Lucas Forced to Wash Luxury SUV in School Uniform — Then the Real Reason Behind the Rigid Academy Penalties Surfaces

Chapter 5 — Lucas Finishes the Grueling Task in Soapy Water — Then Mrs. Gable Hands Over the Ledger

Lucas kneels on the slick concrete floor of the garage.

His knees ache from the freezing water soaking through his uniform trousers.

He dips the yellow sponge back into the plastic bucket filled with soapy grey water.

Suds spill over the rim and mix with the dirt pooling around his shoes.

He grips the sponge tightly and drags it across the lower rim of the black SUV tire.

Headmistress Sterling stands two paces away.

Her arms remain crossed tightly over the front of her grey suit jacket.

Her red tie hangs perfectly straight against her white silk blouse.

Her eyes track every single movement of the boy’s hands.

“Do not miss the inner spokes, Lucas,” Headmistress Sterling instructs in a cold tone.

“Clean work reflects a clean mind.”

Lucas does not look up from the wheel.

He squeezes the yellow sponge until soapy foam drips down onto the wet concrete.

He wipes the rubber tire with slow, deliberate strokes.

Director Vance watches from the edge of the driveway with his hands tucked into his slacks pockets.

Pastor Thomas stands near the workbench, still holding the damp maintenance receipt.

No one speaks as Lucas finishes scrubbing the final section of the front wheel.

He drops the sponge back into the bucket with a wet splash.

He places his hands flat against the cold floor and pushes himself up.

His legs tremble slightly from the sustained kneeling position.

He steps backward away from the vehicle and wipes his wet hands against his sides.

Headmistress Sterling lets out a sharp sigh of inspection.

“Acceptable,” she says without warmth.

She turns her head toward the open service door leading into the academy building.

Mrs. Gable steps out from the shadows of the doorway.

She walks slowly across the damp concrete toward Lucas.

She carries a small, black electronic flash drive gripped tightly in her hand.

Headmistress Sterling narrows her eyes as Mrs. Gable approaches them.

“What are you doing out here, accountant Gable?” Headmistress Sterling asks.

Mrs. Gable ignores the headmistress entirely.

She stops directly in front of Lucas.

She reaches out and presses the small flash drive into the boy’s open palm.

“Take this,” Mrs. Gable says in a low, steady voice.

“You need to see what is on here before they lock the accounts.”

Lucas closes his fingers around the hard plastic body of the drive.

“What is it?” Lucas whispers.

“The complete digital ledger for the last three fiscal years,” Mrs. Gable replies loud enough for everyone in the garage to hear.

“Every unauthorized wire transfer from the student scholarship fund directly into private accounts.”

Director Vance takes a sharp step forward from the driveway.

“Gable, you are out of your mind,” Director Vance shouts.

Pastor Thomas steps between them and holds up a hand to stop Director Vance.

“Let her finish,” Pastor Thomas demands.

Mrs. Gable looks directly at the board member.

“The money for the academy library renovation and the new textbooks never existed,” Mrs. Gable states.

“It was siphoned off systematically by the administration to purchase private property and lease luxury vehicles.”

She points a finger at the black SUV parked behind Lucas.

“That car was paid for in full using three months of student tuition grants.”

Headmistress Sterling’s face turns pale beneath her makeup.

She steps toward Mrs. Gable with her hand raised.

“You fabricated those files,” Headmistress Sterling snaps.

“Every transaction is timestamped and verified by the external bank server,” Mrs. Gable answers coldly.

Lucas looks down at the flash drive in his hand.

He notices a blinking green LED light on the edge of the casing.

Suddenly, the heavy metal door at the far end of the garage rattles loudly.

Headmistress Sterling whips her head toward the noise.

Through the narrow frosted glass window of the side exit door, a tall silhouette appears.

Headmistress Sterling spots someone standing just outside the threshold in the failing daylight.
