Lucas Forced to Wash Luxury SUV in School Uniform — Then the Real Reason Behind the Rigid Academy Penalties Surfaces
Chapter 4 — The Dropped Receipt Shows Private Vehicle Ownership — Then Mrs. Gable Steps Forward
The crumpled white paper flutters downward through the damp air of the garage.
It lands squarely in a puddle of soapy water right near Pastor Thomas’s polished leather shoe.
Pastor Thomas looks down at the wet paper.
Director Vance immediately lunges forward to grab it.
“That is private administrative correspondence,” Director Vance snaps.
His voice loses its previous calm composure.
Pastor Thomas steps his foot over the paper before Director Vance can reach it.
“If it concerns school business, it falls under my board oversight,” Pastor Thomas states.
He bends down and picks the wet paper up from the suds.
He unfolds the damp receipt with two fingers.
Headmistress Sterling stares at the paper with wide, rigid eyes.
Pastor Thomas reads the printed text in the dim garage lighting.
“This is not a school supply order,” Pastor Thomas reads aloud.
“This is a maintenance invoice for a private luxury vehicle.”
Director Vance straightens his grey suit jacket.
“The academy leases vehicles for administrative transit,” Director Vance claims.
“That is a routine operational expense.”
Pastor Thomas traces his finger along the top header of the receipt.
“The billing address matches your personal residential mortgage, Director Vance.”
Pastor Thomas looks up from the paper.
“And the vehicle registration number listed on this receipt belongs to a privately owned SUV.”
He points directly at the black vehicle parked in the garage.
“This is not a school asset at all.”
Headmistress Sterling steps back toward the brick wall.
“The board approved vehicle allowances last semester,” she stammers.
“Without my signature or a recorded vote?” Pastor Thomas asks.
He lets the accusation hang heavy in the enclosed space.
Director Vance clenches his jaw tightly.
He refuses to answer the question.
Off to the side of the garage, near the heavy oak service door, a small window blinds shifts slightly.
A pair of watchful eyes peer out from the dimly lit hallway inside the building.
Mrs. Gable pushes the heavy oak door open just a few inches.
She stands quietly in the shadows of the brick doorway, clutching a thick manila folder against her chest.
She looks directly at Lucas, then glances meaningfully over at Pastor Thomas.
Mrs. Gable raises her left hand and taps three times against her wrist.
She points one finger down toward the bottom drawer of her office desk just inside the hallway.
Lucas catches the silent signal out of the corner of his eye.
