Lily Was Blamed for Shattering Grandma Helen’s Favorite Vase — Then the Pet Camera Showed She Never Touched It

Chapter 7 — The Dinner Does Not Need a Perfect Living Room

The family cleaned the ceramic pieces carefully.

The damaged rug was dried.

The robot vacuum was switched off.

Buddy was allowed back into the room only after every sharp fragment had been removed.

Helen looked toward the empty side table.

“It looks terrible.”

Michael laughed.

“It’s a table.”

“I meant the whole room.”

Claire looked around.

The room looked normal.

One empty space.

No centerpiece.

Nothing catastrophic.

“Mom, nobody came here to inspect your decorating.”

Helen looked toward the dining room.

She had spent the entire morning making everything ready.

Fresh flowers.

Polished glasses.

Clean floors.

Perfect table.

Then the vase broke.

For a few minutes, it felt as though the entire dinner had been spoiled.

But Michael was already opening dessert.

His wife was talking with Claire.

Lily was showing them a drawing.

Buddy was lying under the table hoping something edible would fall.

No one cared about the missing vase.

Helen slowly smiled.

“I may have overestimated its importance to everyone else.”

Claire laughed.

“Possibly.”

Dinner continued.

Nothing matched Helen’s original plan perfectly.

And nothing needed to.
