Emma Was Punished for Breaking the Family Trophy — Then the Security Camera Showed the Dog Knocked It Down After Grandma Moved It Herself
Chapter 6 — The Trophy Shop Gives Them an Unexpected Answer
Robert called the company that had supplied the trophy.
The owner, Peter Nolan, asked him to send several photographs.
Robert did.
Broken handle.
Cracked base.
Bent nameplate.
Peter responded ten minutes later.
“Good news.”
“It’s repairable.”
Margaret looked relieved.
“How long?”
“A few days.”
Then Peter added:
“Actually, I should tell you something.”
Robert frowned.
“What?”
The wooden base had already been weakened before that day’s fall.
Peter could tell from the photograph.
One corner showed an older hairline split.
“That didn’t happen today.”
Margaret looked surprised.
“What?”
Robert remembered.
Three weeks earlier, he had transported the trophy from the charity office to the house.
It tipped inside the trunk during a sharp turn.
He checked it quickly.
Saw no obvious damage.
Then forgot about it.
“That might’ve been me,” Robert said.
Margaret stared.
“You dropped it?”
“Not exactly.”
Rachel smiled faintly.
“Careful.”
Robert laughed.
“It fell over in the trunk.”
Peter explained that today’s impact probably turned an existing crack into the visible split.
The broken handle was new.
The base damage was partly old.
Margaret sat down.
For hours, she had treated the trophy like a perfect object Emma supposedly destroyed in one careless moment.
In reality…
it had already been damaged.
Then Margaret placed it on an unstable table.
Then the dog bumped it.
Several small decisions combined.
But Margaret had reduced everything to:
Emma broke it.
Robert looked toward her.
“Interesting, isn’t it?”
Margaret sighed.
“Very.”
Then Emma asked:
“Is trophy okay?”
Robert smiled.
“It will be.”
Emma looked toward Margaret.
“Am I okay?”
Margaret’s eyes filled.
“I hope so.”
That was harder to repair.
