Daniel Found Vanessa’s Missing Necklace Inside Sophie’s Bunny — Then He Pulled Out a Plane Ticket for the Next Morning

Chapter 3 — What Vanessa Was Really Hiding

Daniel handed Sophie her bunny.

“Go to your room for a few minutes.”

Sophie wouldn’t move.

“Daddy, are you leaving?”

Daniel’s heart tightened.

“No.”

“Promise?”

“Promise.”

He called his sister Emily, who lived two houses away.

Within minutes, Emily came over and took Sophie upstairs.

Daniel returned to the living room.

Vanessa was standing beside the window.

“Start from the beginning.”

She looked exhausted.

“The ticket is mine.”

“I figured that out.”

“Vanessa Hart is a name I used years ago.”

“Used for what?”

She hesitated.

“Travel.”

Daniel stared at her.

“That’s not an answer.”

Vanessa finally sat down.

“Before I met you, I was engaged.”

Daniel frowned.

He knew about one previous relationship.

He had never heard about an engagement.

“His name was Marcus Hart.”

“You used his last name?”

“For a short time.”

“Were you married?”

Vanessa didn’t answer immediately.

That was enough.

Daniel’s expression changed.

“Vanessa.”

She closed her eyes.

“Technically.”

Daniel felt the room tilt.

“Technically married?”

“It lasted six months.”

“You told me you had never been married.”

“Because I wanted that part of my life gone.”

Daniel looked toward the ticket.

Destination:

DENVER.

“Does Marcus live in Denver?”

Vanessa nodded.

Daniel laughed once, without humor.

“So tomorrow morning you’re flying to see your secret ex-husband under his last name.”

“It’s not what you think.”

“Then what is it?”

Vanessa looked toward the staircase.

“Marcus contacted me three weeks ago.”

Daniel waited.

“He said he found something that belongs to Sophie.”
