Daniel Found Vanessa’s Missing Necklace Inside Sophie’s Bunny — Then He Pulled Out a Plane Ticket for the Next Morning
Chapter 9 — Vanessa Apologizes to Sophie
The hardest conversation happened that evening.
Vanessa sat across from Sophie at the kitchen table.
The stuffed bunny rested in Sophie’s lap.
Daniel sat nearby.
Vanessa didn’t make excuses.
“I put my necklace inside Bunny.”
Sophie looked at her.
“I know.”
“And I put the ticket there.”
Sophie nodded.
Vanessa swallowed.
“Then I got scared because you saw me.”
Sophie held the bunny tighter.
“You said I stole it.”
Vanessa’s eyes filled.
“Yes.”
“But I didn’t.”
“No. You didn’t.”
“You knew I didn’t.”
Vanessa closed her eyes briefly.
“Yes.”
Sophie stared at her.
That was the hardest part.
Not anger.
Confusion.
Vanessa continued.
“What I did was wrong. You should never have been blamed for something I did because I was afraid of telling the truth.”
Sophie looked toward Daniel.
“Is she in trouble?”
Daniel answered carefully.
“Adults have consequences too.”
Vanessa nodded.
She and Daniel had already agreed that things could not simply return to normal.
Trust had been damaged.
They would attend counseling.
Vanessa would also temporarily stay with her sister while Daniel decided what came next for their marriage.
But before leaving that night, Vanessa did one thing herself.
She took Sophie’s bunny to a seamstress.
The hidden opening was repaired.
No secret pocket remained.
