Emma Was Blamed for Breaking Grandma Margaret’s Vase — Then the Pet Camera Revealed What Really Knocked It Over

Chapter 1 — The Shattered Vase

Emma was already crying when Claire entered the living room.

Pieces of white porcelain were scattered across the wooden floor.

In the middle of them sat the remains of Grandma Margaret’s favorite vase.

Margaret knelt beside Emma.

“Sweetheart… did you knock this over?”

Emma shook her head quickly.

“No, Grandma.”

Claire rushed forward.

“What happened?”

Margaret pointed toward the broken vase.

“She was standing right here.”

Claire looked at her daughter.

Emma’s face was wet with tears.

“Mommy, I didn’t do it.”

Claire looked back at Margaret.

“Did you actually see her break it?”

Margaret hesitated.

“No.”

Emma suddenly stopped crying.

She looked toward the corner of the room.

Then toward Claire’s phone.

“Wait…”

Claire frowned.

Emma pointed.

“Camera.”

Mounted above the bookshelf was a small pet camera Claire had installed to watch their Labrador, Cooper, while nobody was home.

Claire opened the recording application.

She rewound ten minutes.

Everyone leaned closer.

On-screen, Emma sat peacefully on the carpet playing with wooden blocks.

The vase stood untouched on the side table.

Then Cooper entered.

His tail wagged wildly.

He squeezed between the sofa and the table.

His body bumped the furniture.

The table shook.

The vase tipped.

Then crashed to the floor.

Margaret’s mouth fell open.

Emma looked at her grandmother.

“I told you.”

Margaret immediately pulled her into a hug.

“Oh, sweetheart. I’m sorry.”

Claire started gathering the larger pieces.

Then she stopped.

Something metallic was lying beneath one of the shattered fragments.

It had not been visible inside the vase before.

A tiny brass key.

Margaret stared at it.

And suddenly the broken vase no longer seemed like the most important thing in the room.
