Caleb Nearly Got Hit by a Falling Garage Box — Then the Security Camera Showed Someone Had Moved It on Purpose

Chapter 8 — The Story Everyone Accepted

Thomas died from a sudden heart attack.

There was never anything suspicious about his death.

But his death created perfect chaos.

The investigation he had started stopped immediately.

Mark Ellison stepped in to help the family close the failing company.

He presented the final accounting ledger.

Then showed several checks connected to Jason.

Jason already had a reputation for arguing with Thomas.

He had borrowed money from the company before.

He had also left after a major disagreement.

Mark’s story sounded believable.

Jason had taken company money and disappeared.

Ryan believed it.

Their mother believed it.

Creditors believed it.

Jason’s denials sounded like excuses.

Now the hidden records told another story.

Thomas had discovered altered payments before he died.

And Mark had controlled the company’s records after his death.

Ryan felt sick.

“Why didn’t Dad tell us?”

Jason looked around Unit 118.

“Maybe he thought he’d have time.”

They contacted an attorney.

Forensic accountants reviewed what remained.

Several fake vendor companies had indeed been tied to addresses associated with Mark Ellison or relatives of his.

Some records were too old for complete reconstruction.

But the evidence was strong enough to show that the story blaming Jason had been deeply flawed.

Mark, now retired, denied stealing from Thomas.

He claimed accounting mistakes caused the discrepancies.

But he could not explain why multiple vendor payments led to companies connected to him.

Nor could he explain why Thomas’s original ledger pages differed from the final version Mark later produced.

For Ryan, the legal outcome mattered less than one personal fact.

He had spent fifteen years refusing to hear his brother.
