Sophie Was Blamed for Ruining Christmas — Then the Living Room Camera Showed the Real Culprit Had Four Paws

Chapter 9 — Grandpa Richard Apologizes to Sophie

Richard had another apology to make.

A much smaller one.

But not less important to the person receiving it.

He found Sophie drawing at the kitchen table.

“Can Grandpa sit here?”

She nodded.

Richard sat.

“I blamed you for the Christmas tree.”

Sophie looked at him.

“Milo did it.”

“Yes.”

“The camera showed you.”

“It did.”

Richard smiled sadly.

“But I blamed you before I checked.”

Sophie shrugged.

“Because you were mad.”

“That’s not a good reason.”

She thought about it.

“You really liked the ornament.”

Richard nodded.

“Very much.”

“But it had the paper inside.”

“Yes.”

Sophie smiled.

“So Milo helped.”

Richard laughed.

“That’s one way to look at it.”

Then he became serious.

“I’m sorry I didn’t believe you.”

Sophie accepted the apology.

Then asked:

“Are you mad at Milo?”

Richard looked toward the cat sleeping peacefully beneath a chair.

“I was.”

“Now?”

Richard smiled.

“Now I think he has terrible timing and surprisingly good historical instincts.”

Sophie didn’t understand.

Michael laughed from across the room.
