Emily Was Seconds Away From Saying “I Do” — Then a Woman Put an Official Document in Her Hands

Chapter 8 — The Wedding Becomes Evidence

Within hours, the wedding venue looked nothing like a wedding venue.

Flowers remained on the tables.

The cake remained untouched.

But lawyers now occupied the bridal suite.

Documents covered a dining table.

Ryan sat alone near the window.

Emily had changed out of her wedding dress.

She returned wearing jeans and a sweater.

Ryan looked at her.

“Can we talk?”

“We’re talking now.”

“Privately.”

Emily shook her head.

“No more private versions.”

Ryan looked devastated.

“I didn’t know Graham was still using those companies.”

“But you knew how they started.”

Ryan said nothing.

“You knew you used Natalie’s identity.”

“Yes.”

“You knew the divorce was never personally verified.”

“Yes.”

“And you told me you’d never been married.”

Ryan closed his eyes.

“Yes.”

Emily shook her head.

“Then Graham isn’t responsible for all of this.”

Ryan looked at her.

“I know.”

“You lied too.”

“I was ashamed.”

Emily looked toward the chapel where they had almost exchanged vows.

“You were about to marry me while hoping your first marriage somehow didn’t matter anymore.”

Ryan had no defense.

Then Nora entered.

“Natalie’s coming.”

Ryan immediately stood.

“Here?”

Nora nodded.

“She says it’s time.”
