Graham arrived at the chapel less than an hour later.
Ryan had called him.
The attorney entered angrily.
“What is going on?”
Nora placed the marriage certificate in front of him.
“You tell us.”
Graham looked at it.
Then at Ryan.
“I thought this was resolved.”
Nora shook her head.
“No final divorce decree exists.”
Graham immediately blamed a clerical error.
Then Thomas showed him the recent transfers.
“What about these?”
Graham’s face tightened.
“I don’t discuss client matters with strangers.”
Thomas stepped closer.
“One of those transfers came from a vendor paid by my company.”
Graham stopped.
Emily stared at her father.
“What?”
Thomas had recognized another company name.
Northfield Consulting.
Carter Family Holdings paid Northfield almost $300,000 during the previous year for acquisition research.
Graham’s records connected Northfield to one of the old Natalie companies.
Ryan looked stunned.
“I didn’t know that.”
Thomas asked:
“Who recommended Northfield to us?”
Everyone already knew.
Ryan.
“Graham gave me the contact,” Ryan said.
Graham’s face went pale.
The arrangement became clearer.
Ryan may not have known the company was ultimately tied back to Natalie.
But he had unknowingly introduced Graham’s business into the Carter company.
Then Graham inserted himself into the final prenuptial agreement.
Nora looked at him.
“How much money have you moved through companies registered under Natalie Cole’s identity?”
Graham picked up his briefcase.
“This conversation is over.”
But it wasn’t.
Thomas had already called his own attorney.
