Ava Was Accused of Taking Missing Money — Then the Security Camera Showed She Had Only Picked Up Cash Someone Else Dropped
Chapter 5 — The Camera Shows Nicole Opening the Envelope
Sarah returned to the security recording.
They started at 8:30 AM.
Nicole entered the kitchen.
She placed the white envelope on the counter.
Then counted the bills.
Sarah watched carefully.
“That’s your six hundred?”
Nicole nodded.
“Yes.”
At 8:47, the florist arrived.
Nicole opened the envelope.
Removed several bills.
Then walked toward the front door.
“There,” Sarah said.
Nicole frowned.
“I wasn’t paying her.”
They kept watching.
Nicole returned carrying flowers.
But the bills were no longer in her hand.
Nicole’s expression changed.
“I did pay her.”
Sarah looked toward the note.
FLOWERS — $80.
“That’s eighty accounted for.”
Nicole covered her forehead.
“I completely forgot.”
“Still eighty missing.”
They continued.
At 9:26, Michael entered.
He held up a small paper bag.
Nicole walked toward him.
They spoke.
Then Nicole opened the envelope again.
Removed money.
Handed it to Michael.
“What’s that?” Sarah asked.
Nicole stared at the footage.
Then remembered.
“Decorations.”
Michael had picked up the personalized anniversary banner and table decorations.
The store required eighty dollars in cash because its card terminal was temporarily offline.
Nicole gave him the money.
Sarah looked toward her.
“Eighty plus eighty.”
Nicole slowly sat down.
“One hundred and sixty.”
Nothing was missing.
Not one dollar.
Nicole had started with six hundred.
She paid eighty for flowers.
Eighty for decorations.
Four hundred and forty remained.
Exactly what was still inside the envelope.
Sarah stared at her.
“You forgot two payments.”
Nicole looked toward Ava.
Her face went pale.
The entire accusation had been built on money that was never missing at all.
