Sophie Was Handed a Sealed Envelope at School — Then Principal Harris Found a Cruel Note Inside and One Message Revealed Who Had Planned the Humiliation

Chapter 6 — Vanessa Had Scanned the Note That Morning

Vanessa stared at the image on Harris’s phone.

The handwriting matched every torn piece on his desk.

The same sentences.

The same spacing.

The same final words:

From someone honest.

Harris looked toward Vanessa.

“Your access card scanned this at 7:32 this morning.”

Vanessa immediately answered:

“Someone must have used my card.”

“Where was your card?”

She touched the lanyard around her neck.

“With me.”

The room became quiet.

Vanessa realized the problem with her answer.

Harris asked:

“Did you lend it to anyone?”

“No.”

“Did you report it lost?”

“No.”

Harris nodded.

Then:

“Why did you scan this document?”

Vanessa looked toward Sophie.

“I didn’t.”

Harris did not raise his voice.

“Vanessa, we’re beyond the point where saying that makes the evidence disappear.”

Sophie watched silently.

Vanessa finally said:

“I found it.”

Harris frowned.

“Where?”

“On the copier.”

“Then why scan it?”

“I wanted a record.”

“And then somehow the original ended up in the envelope from your stationery batch?”

Vanessa said nothing.

Ms. Patel looked at her.

“Vanessa, stop.”

Vanessa looked toward her colleague.

Patel continued.

“Sophie is sitting right here listening to an adult invent explanation after explanation rather than admit what happened.”

Vanessa’s eyes moved toward Sophie.

The child looked exhausted.

Not angry.

Not triumphant.

Just hurt.

Harris stood.

“Sophie should not have to stay for the rest of this.”

He called her mother.

Then arranged for Sophie to wait with Ms. Patel.

Before she left, Sophie looked toward Vanessa.

“Why don’t you want me to read?”

Vanessa froze.

And after Sophie walked out, Harris asked Vanessa the same question.

This time he refused to accept another answer about envelopes.
