The investigation continued for several weeks.
Rachel became a cooperating witness.
Several former Bridgemont employees also came forward.
Internal messages suggested certain staff members were encouraged to make reluctant homeowners feel that remaining in the neighborhood would become increasingly inconvenient.
Victor eventually admitted taking Rachel’s letter.
He also admitted attaching the tracker.
The scratched car had been deliberate.
Not because he expected the damage itself to force Mr. Harris to sell.
He wanted confusion.
He wanted attention focused somewhere else while he removed Rachel’s warning.
And Noah had been the perfect distraction.
Mr. Harris struggled with that part.
Not because Victor had used the boy.
Because Mr. Harris had made the plan work.
He had seen Noah standing beside the damage and immediately decided he was responsible.
One evening, he walked next door.
Noah was sitting on the front steps editing another video on his phone.
Mr. Harris sat beside him.
“Can we talk?”
Noah nodded.
Mr. Harris looked toward the street.
“I owe you an apology.”
Noah said nothing.
“When I saw those scratches, I decided what happened before I had any proof.”
“It’s okay.”
Mr. Harris shook his head.
“No. It isn’t.”
He looked directly at Noah.
“You told me the truth, and I treated you like you were lying.”
Noah stared at his phone.
“You were pretty mad.”
Mr. Harris laughed softly.
“Yeah. I was.”
He paused.
“But being angry isn’t an excuse for being wrong.”
Noah finally smiled.
“You believed the video.”
“Eventually.”
Mr. Harris looked at the phone in Noah’s hands.
“Good thing you record everything.”
Noah grinned.
“Mom says it’s annoying.”
“Tell her Mr. Harris disagrees.”
