Emma Was Blamed for a Missing Heirloom — Then Sarah Saw Its Tracker Inside Aunt Nicole’s Handbag

Chapter 5 — 42 Windermere Road

Sarah waited until Emma was with her father before going to the address.

Nicole insisted on coming.

Windermere Road was thirty minutes away.

Number 42 was a small gray house surrounded by old maple trees.

An elderly woman answered the door.

“Can I help you?”

Sarah held out the photograph.

“Are you Eleanor?”

The woman’s face changed immediately.

She looked from Sarah…

to Nicole…

then back at the photograph.

“You’re Helen’s girls.”

Sarah felt cold.

“You knew our mother?”

Eleanor stepped aside.

“Come in.”

Her living room contained dozens of family photographs.

Sarah noticed one immediately.

The same woman from Helen’s photograph.

Older.

Standing beside Eleanor.

“Who is she?” Sarah asked.

Eleanor looked toward the frame.

“My daughter, Rebecca.”

“And the baby?”

Eleanor slowly sat down.

“Lucy.”

“Who was Lucy?”

Eleanor stared directly at Sarah.

“Before I answer that, I need to know something.”

“What?”

“Did Helen ever tell you that you were adopted?”

Sarah stopped breathing.

Nicole whispered:

“What?”

Eleanor’s eyes filled with tears.

Then she looked at Sarah again.

“Lucy was the name Rebecca gave you before Helen became your mother.”
