Caleb Was Accused of Stealing From a Business Executive — Then Security Footage Showed Someone Secretly Planting It in His Backpack
Chapter 2 — The Missing Memory Card
Richard replayed the recording twice.
The sequence was unmistakable.
Lydia opened the silver case.
Removed something small.
Placed the empty case in Caleb’s backpack.
Then walked toward the service corridor.
Mr. Dawson immediately called her.
No answer.
Again.
Voicemail.
Richard looked toward security.
“Find her.”
Maria remained beside Caleb.
He was trying hard not to cry.
Mr. Dawson finally looked at him.
“Caleb…”
Maria stopped him.
“Not yet.”
Mr. Dawson went quiet.
Richard opened the silver case.
A narrow slot inside was empty.
“What was stored here?”
Mr. Dawson frowned.
“The archive card.”
“What’s on it?”
“Everything selected for tonight’s anniversary film.”
Richard shook his head.
“No. The main archive is on the server.”
Mr. Dawson looked at him.
“What?”
“This card was created separately yesterday.”
Richard had asked the archive team to scan several items that had never been digitized.
An old cassette.
Three photographs.
And a videotape discovered inside a retired employee’s box.
“Which employee?” Maria asked.
Richard looked toward her.
“Elias Grant.”
Maria froze.
Caleb looked up.
“Grandpa?”
Richard stared at him.
“Elias Grant was your grandfather?”
Maria nodded slowly.
“My father.”
Mr. Dawson looked confused.
“Your father worked here?”
Maria gave him a cold look.
“For twenty-two years.”
Richard stared at Caleb.
The boy Lydia had chosen to frame was not a random child.
He was Elias Grant’s grandson.
