Sophie Kept Pointing Toward the Hallway — Then the Camera Showed a Woman Grandma Margaret Hadn’t Seen in 26 Years
Chapter 1 — The Woman in the Hallway
Sophie sat on the bedroom floor with tears running down her face.
Emily wrapped both arms around her.
“Sweetheart, tell me what happened.”
Sophie couldn’t.
She kept looking toward the hallway.
Then pointing.
Grandma Margaret knelt beside them holding Sophie’s stuffed bunny.
“Did somebody scare you?”
Sophie nodded.
Emily immediately looked toward the door.
“Who?”
No answer.
Then Emily remembered the small security camera mounted near the ceiling.
It covered the upstairs hallway and bedroom entrance.
She grabbed her phone.
Opened the recording.
Found the previous hour.
The footage showed an empty hallway.
Nothing moved.
Then, at 2:16 PM, a woman appeared at the top of the stairs.
Emily froze the video.
“Wait.”
Margaret leaned closer.
“Who is that?”
Emily enlarged the image.
The woman looked to be in her early sixties.
Gray coat.
Dark hair streaked with silver.
She stood motionless outside Sophie’s room.
Margaret suddenly stopped breathing.
Emily noticed.
“Mom?”
Margaret reached for the phone.
“Play it again.”
Emily did.
The woman entered Sophie’s room.
Five minutes later, she came back out.
This time she was carrying something small.
Margaret’s face slowly turned pale.
“No.”
Emily looked at her.
“You know her.”
Margaret said nothing.
Sophie began crying harder.
Emily paused on the clearest frame.
The woman’s face was visible.
Margaret whispered:
“That’s Elaine.”
Emily stared at her.
“Who is Elaine?”
Margaret’s eyes filled with tears.
“My sister.”
Emily slowly stood.
“You don’t have a sister.”
Margaret looked at the frozen image.
“I haven’t had one for twenty-six years.”
