David arrived an hour later.
Michael met him at the hallway.
“Before dinner, you’re fixing this.”
David examined the automatic door closer.
Within minutes, he found the problem.
One mounting screw had loosened.
That caused the arm to shift position.
But there was another issue.
“Who adjusted this?”
Evelyn looked confused.
“Adjusted what?”
David pointed toward a small valve on the closer.
It controlled closing speed.
Someone had turned it almost completely open.
“This is why it’s slamming.”
Michael frowned.
“Who touched it?”
Evelyn suddenly remembered.
Two days earlier, a furniture-delivery crew brought a new cabinet through the hallway.
The heavy door kept closing while they were carrying boxes.
One worker adjusted the mechanism so it would swing more freely.
He told Evelyn:
“You may want someone to reset that later.”
She forgot.
“Mom.”
Evelyn covered her face.
“I know.”
David repaired the mounting point.
Then reset the closing speed.
He opened the door.
Released it.
It closed slowly.

“Door not mad now.”
David laughed.
“Door has received counseling.”
Even Evelyn laughed.

A delivery crew adjusted the closer.
Evelyn forgot to have it reset.
She noticed it slamming twice.
Mia warned her again that morning.
Evelyn still moved the glass frame onto an unstable console near the door.
