Laura opened the envelope with shaking hands.

Inside were five handwritten letters.

The signature at the bottom of the first one made her stop.

Michael Miller.

Her father.

She began reading.

The letters weren’t romantic.

They weren’t secret confessions.

They were about money.

Michael had discovered that his business partner had been stealing from their small construction company.

Thousands at first.

Then tens of thousands.

Michael intended to report him.

But before he could do it, Michael died in what the family had always believed was a workplace accident.

Laura stopped reading.

“Who was his partner?”

Margaret already knew the answer.

“Thomas Reed.”

Daniel looked up.

“The same Thomas Reed who owns Reed Development?”

Margaret nodded.

Thomas was now one of the wealthiest property developers in the county.

Laura continued reading.

The final letter was different.

Michael had written it directly to Helen.

If anything happened to him, he wanted her to take the financial records to the police.

But Helen had apparently never seen the letter.

Someone had removed the entire box before she could read everything.

Laura looked at Margaret.

“Who had these?”

Margaret shook her head.

“I don’t know.”

Then Daniel noticed handwriting on the back of the envelope.

Three words.

CHECK THE CAMERA.

Everyone went silent.

Daniel immediately opened the doorbell recordings again.

Not the moment the planter broke.

The footage from earlier that morning.

At 5:17 AM, someone walked onto the porch.

An elderly man wearing a baseball cap.

He stood directly in front of the camera.

Then he lifted his face.

Margaret gasped.

“I know him.”
