What investigators uncovered was simple in concept but carefully hidden.
Martin created duplicate assistance profiles using information from former clients.
Because the names already existed in Havenbrook’s files, the fake cases looked legitimate.
Olivia approved payments.
The money went through vendor accounts disguised as emergency service providers.
Those companies were connected to Olivia.
Martin received part of the proceeds through consulting payments.
Peter did not appear to be part of the theft itself.
But he admitted following Julia because Martin told him to retrieve the copied records.
His decision to participate nearly allowed the larger scheme to remain hidden.
Julia’s evidence changed that.
So did the backpack.
So did the travel card.
And ironically, so did Claire’s decision to hide everything in the least logical place she could think of.
The freezer.
Investigators later asked why she didn’t simply use a locked cabinet.
Claire answered honestly.
“Because I wasn’t thinking like an investigator.”
“What were you thinking?”
“That whoever came looking would search drawers first.”
Ethan smiled when he heard that.
“You still could’ve told Dad.”
Claire looked at him.
“Yes.”
“And the police.”
“Also yes.”
She had learned that fear could make secrecy feel safer than asking for help.
