Delivery Driver Ryan Saw a Terrified Boy Hiding Behind Packages — Then an Older Woman Looked at the Child and Screamed His Name
Chapter 8 — Friday

Friday had appeared repeatedly in Derek’s messages.
Police finally understood why.
Caroline’s attorney had received an anonymous email scheduled to send Friday morning.
Investigators intercepted it.
The message demanded $600,000.
No police.
No negotiation.
Payment instructions would follow.
But Lisa didn’t know Noah had already been found.
Detective Ruiz made a decision.
They would pretend nothing had changed.
Friday morning, the email arrived.
Then another.
A location.
An abandoned parking structure near the industrial district.
Caroline was supposed to bring a bag.
Police prepared a controlled operation.
Ryan wasn’t supposed to be involved.
He wasn’t family.
He wasn’t police.
He was simply a delivery driver who had noticed a frightened child.
But as officers prepared, Noah pulled on Ryan’s sleeve.
“Are you leaving?”
Ryan crouched.
“Yeah, buddy.”
Noah looked worried.
“Will she come back?”
Ryan understood.
Lisa.
“She won’t get near you.”
“How do you know?”
Ryan looked at Margaret.
Then Caroline.
Then the officers outside.
“Because this time everybody’s looking.”
Noah nodded.
Ryan walked toward the door.
Then Noah called after him.
“Mr. Ryan?”
Ryan turned.
“Thank you for looking.”
Ryan couldn’t speak for a second.
He simply nodded.
