Mr. Harris Blamed Noah for Scratching His Car — Then the Boy Showed Him a Recording That Changed Everything

Chapter 1 — The White Scratches

Mr. Harris stood beside his sedan with both hands resting on his hips.

Three long white scratches ran across the driver’s-side door.

They weren’t small.

They weren’t something anyone could ignore.

And they definitely hadn’t been there that morning.

Beside him stood Noah Bennett.

Noah was eleven years old, thin, quiet, and suddenly very nervous.

Mr. Harris pointed toward the marks.

“You were playing outside this afternoon.”

Noah nodded.

“Yeah.”

“Right beside my car.”

“For a little while.”

Mr. Harris stared at him.

“So tell me what happened.”

Noah swallowed.

“I didn’t do it.”

Mr. Harris sighed.

“Noah.”

“I’m serious.”

“There were three kids outside.”

“I know.”

“And you’re the one I saw running near the driveway.”

Noah looked at the scratches.

Then back at Mr. Harris.

“I never touched your car.”

Mr. Harris had lived next door to Noah’s family for almost six years.

He liked the boy.

Most of the time.

But Noah had recently developed a habit of filming everything on an old phone.

Bike tricks.

Birds in the yard.

His friends playing basketball.

Anything that moved.

Earlier that afternoon, Mr. Harris had even warned him not to kick a ball near the parked vehicles.

Now the side of his car was badly scratched.

The conclusion seemed obvious.

“Accidents happen,” Mr. Harris said.

“But lying about them makes things worse.”

Noah’s face changed.

“I’m not lying.”

“Then explain the scratches.”

For several seconds, Noah said nothing.

Then he reached into his pocket.

He pulled out his phone.

“I can show you.”

Mr. Harris frowned.

“Show me what?”

Noah opened a video.

“What happened before you came outside.”

Mr. Harris took the phone.

At first, the recording seemed useless.

It showed the street.

The sidewalk.

His parked car.

Then something happened near the edge of the frame.

Mr. Harris stopped the video.

He played it again.

His expression slowly changed.
