Ethan Was Blamed for Shattering the Planter — Then His Father Checked the Doorbell Camera
Chapter 1 — The Broken Planter
Ethan Miller stood completely still on the front steps.
Pieces of blue ceramic covered the porch around his shoes.
Only minutes earlier, the planter beside the front door had been standing perfectly upright.
Now it was destroyed.
Soil covered the concrete.
Small white flowers had been crushed beneath the broken pieces.
Laura Miller stepped through the doorway and stared at the mess.
Then she looked directly at her son.
“Tell me you didn’t do this.”
Ethan’s eyes widened.
“I didn’t.”
Laura folded her arms.
“Ethan.”
“Mom, I swear. I never touched it.”
“You were the only person outside.”
“I just came out here.”
Laura looked at the shattered planter again.
It had belonged to her mother.
Her mother had painted the blue pattern around its rim by hand almost twenty years earlier.
After she died, Laura kept the planter beside the entrance every spring.
Ethan knew exactly what it meant to her.
Which was why the accusation hurt even more.
“Why would I break Grandma’s planter?” he asked.
Laura shook her head.
“Maybe it was an accident.”
“It wasn’t me.”
“Then what happened?”
Ethan looked around helplessly.
“I don’t know.”
That answer only made Laura more suspicious.
Then Daniel walked around the side of the house.
He stopped when he saw the broken ceramic.
“What happened?”
Laura pointed toward Ethan.
“Apparently nobody knows.”
Daniel looked at his son.
“Did you see it happen?”
Ethan shook his head.
“No.”
Laura sighed.
“Daniel, he was standing right beside it.”
Daniel started to answer.
Then something beside the front door caught his attention.
A small black camera.
The doorbell camera.
Daniel slowly pointed toward it.
“Wait.”
Laura looked at him.
“What?”
Daniel pulled out his phone.
“We don’t have to guess.”
Ethan stared at the screen as his father opened the recording.
None of them knew that the video was about to reveal something far stranger than a broken planter.
