Amber Demands Answers About Co-Parenting Surprise — Then A Hidden Document Reveals Jamal’s True Motive
Chapter 2 — The Silence On The Phone — Then Amber Checks The Custody Clauses
Jamal turned his phone over on the wooden countertop, placing it face down.
He exhaled slowly, leaning back against the wooden chair.
“It was an emergency deadline,” Jamal said, his voice dropping into a defensive cadence.
“The admissions window was closing in under twenty-four hours. I had to act fast to secure Leo’s spot.”
Amber dropped the embossed letter onto the counter next to the mail stack.
Her hands were still trembling.
She reached into her canvas tote bag hanging on the pantry door and pulled out a worn black binder.
It was their legally binding custody agreement, signed by a family court judge three years ago.
She flipped past the visitation schedules and holiday splits, stopping directly at Section Seven.
Education and Extracurricular Decisions.
Amber read the bold text aloud to the empty kitchen.
“Both parents must provide prior joint written consent for any change in schooling, specialized academic enrollment, or private institutional placement.”
She looked up, fixing her tear-filled eyes entirely on Jamal.
“There is nothing in here about an emergency loophole, Jamal.”
Jamal shifted uncomfortably in his seat.
He picked his phone back up, his thumb swiping rapidly across the glass screen.
“The school office told me verbal agreement was fine under their fast-track admission policy,” Jamal muttered, refusing to meet her gaze.
“They said they would send the follow-up paperwork later this week.”
Amber slammed the custody binder down onto the kitchen table.
The sharp sound echoed off the white cabinets.
“You don’t get to bypass a court order because of an administrative shortcut,” Amber said.
“You knew we had to discuss this together.”
Jamal didn’t reply.
He tapped on his screen again, pulling up his email inbox to prove his timeline.
As he scrolled past the recent correspondence with the admissions director, a folder at the very bottom of his screen caught Amber’s eye.
It was labeled Leo Academy 2024.
Next to it sat a subfolder marked Trash.
Amber leaned forward across the counter, staring at the screen’s timestamp.
An unread message from the school’s registrar was sitting inside the trash folder, dated nearly three full weeks ago.
