Aiden’s Science Bridge Was Destroyed and Mason’s Shoe Seemed to Prove He Did It — Then the Classroom Camera Showed Who Planted the Evidence
Chapter 8 — Chloe Has to Repair More Than a Bridge
Chloe received school consequences for what she had done.
She lost her role introducing the superintendent.
Her Youth Advisory Council recommendation was postponed.
But Principal Harris refused to reduce the situation to punishment alone.
Chloe had damaged Aiden’s project accidentally.
Then deliberately endangered Mason’s reputation.
She needed to repair what she could.
First, she apologized to Mason.
“I knew the clay was yours.”
Mason nodded.
“That’s why you used it.”
“Yes.”
“You wanted everybody to think I broke it.”
Chloe swallowed.
“Yes.”
Mason did not immediately tell her everything was fine.
Because it wasn’t.
“I accept your apology.”
Then:
“But it’s going to take a while before I trust you.”
Chloe nodded.
“I understand.”
Then she faced Aiden.
“I’m sorry.”
Aiden looked toward the broken bridge pieces.
“I know you didn’t mean to knock it over.”
Chloe looked relieved.
Then Aiden added:
“But you did mean everything after.”
Her relief disappeared.
“I know.”
Aiden did not want Chloe rebuilding the model for him.
But Ms. Carter proposed something else.
Chloe could help organize additional workshop time so Aiden and Mason could rebuild it themselves.
She could replace materials.
Move the showcase schedule.
And publicly correct the rumor she had started about Mason.
Chloe agreed.
The next morning, she stood in front of their class.
“Mason didn’t destroy Aiden’s bridge.”
She took a breath.
“I knocked it over by accident. Then I tried to make it look like he did it.”
No excuses.
No mention of panic.
Just the truth.
